Mars rover’s broken wheel is beyond repair
Mission managers have given up hope of fixing a broken wheel on NASA’s Spirit rover and will simply have to drag the wheel on future drives. The glitch means NASA must avoid terrain with loose soil as it maps out a route to a safe winter haven for the rover.
You have to love the positive spin that these guys put on everything they do…claming that the right front wheel that will not respond is exposing material under the surfaces as a plus…that being said it’s a 3-hour per day drive limit with a busted wheel while making a mad dash for a North facing mountain to keep the Rover from being trash…but for some reason they may not bother with the closest mountain…and then the obsticles of Mars being covered in ‘lose’ debris adds to the whole challenge…Frankly this thing has lasted since 2004 and at this point, a dead Rover isn’t a failure after all the success that it’s already had….Welcome to CrzyLand
