Why Winternals Sued Best Buy’s Geek Squad


By now many of you have heard via Slashdot, arstechnica, Digg, or your local newspaper that Winternals Software, the company I co-founded with Bryce Cogswell in 1996, filed suit in Federal court against Geek Squad and Best Buy for illegal use of the Administrator’s Pak.

Basically Best Buy/Geek Squad have been using a pirated software to fix your computers, and Winternals just wanted to make things right by selling them the licences to use the software for their 12,000+ employee’s….but alas it would seem that Best Buy was happier having their ‘Geeks’ just pirate the software since they only use it every now and then…kind of like why you pirated that copy of Photoshop….Welcome to CrzyLand
