Scientists Develop Way to Harness Footsteps

London-based Facility Architects is working on a project called Pacesetters that aims to literally harness the pulse of a city and reuse it as a renewable energy source.
While the pitter-patter of feet hitting the pavement in major metropolitan cities such as New York can be overwhelming, can it really be harnessed into energy? It would appear that the company is interested in starting with stairs, possibly going down to subways, or other areas of mass commuter foot travel. Rigging the stairs with “either hydraulic or piezoelectric” devices to capture the energy and store it in batteries. These batteries would then be able to power such amazing things as LED’s under archways. Look out big oil, the masses are stomping! Further more, once the technology is improved and sidewalks and city streets contribute to these “good vibrations” will the “Million Man March” turn into something like “Black Power Makes More Power” marches? Maybe cattle will be herded through the streets of Houston? Better yet, the Chicago “Running of the Bulls.” Welcome to CrzyLand.
