BackupHDDVD knocked back with DMAC takedown notice

It appears that BackupHDDVD the software first released to rip your HD-DVD’s to your computer hard drive and allowing you to watch them at a later time has been hit with a DMAC takedown notice. This resulted in BackupHDDVD being removed from SourceForge. They said that they would be willing to put the software back up if they were supplied with a copy that didn’t contain the copyrighted cryptographic keys allegedly contained within BackupHDDVD. Of course BackupHDDVD has received most of the attention, and has become the forerunner of AACS’s efforts. AnyDVD HD has remained unscathed in all of this and is still up on SourceForge. We really expected to see moves like this take place, and it’s not too uncommon. At the end of the day, you can’t really hope to protect anything. Even TiVo is willing to tell you how to break their DRM encryption. Welcome to CrzyLand.
