BackupHDDVD knocked back with DMAC takedown notice

It appears that BackupHDDVD the software first released to rip your HD-DVD’s to your computer hard drive and allowing you to watch them at a later time has been hit with a DMAC takedown notice. This resulted in BackupHDDVD being removed from SourceForge. They said that they would be willing to put the software back up if they were supplied with a copy that didn’t contain the copyrighted cryptographic keys allegedly contained within BackupHDDVD. Of course BackupHDDVD has received most of the attention, and has become the forerunner of AACS’s efforts. AnyDVD HD has remained unscathed in all of this and is still up on SourceForge. We really expected to see moves like this take place, and it’s not too uncommon. At the end of the day, you can’t really hope to protect anything. Even TiVo is willing to tell you how to break their DRM encryption. Welcome to CrzyLand.

Sonic Bomb Alarm Clock with Bed Shaker

If you’re like me you spread yourself so thin that sleep is just a novel idea, and naps rule your world. The three to five hours a day start to drain you and the multiple alarm clocks somehow manage to drown out in the background of your mind come Thursday and Friday. I’ve always joked about needing someone to shake me out of bed, and well I think I might have just had my wish come true. The Sonic Bomb Alarm Clock w/Bed Shaker has an impressive audible alarm adjustable up to 113 decibels, throw in the bone jarring mattress vibrator and your guaranteed to wake up. Just a little warning, if you’re living close to a graveyard you might want to turn the volume down a little to avoid waking the dead. Sonic Bomb couldn’t be a better name. To grab yours head over to ThinkGeek.com
just $39.99.

A Gadget Rant.

You know the more and more time I spend looking for something new, the more I find the same old crap. I might spend 5 hours surfing the net looking for that new something. Often times I’ll come up with nothing, and that bothers me. I guess what bothers me even more, is how some people out there will take the time to write about just anything. They’ve gone out of their way to provide good content about intresting stuff, and then throw it all out to bring you “useless gadgets you can’t help but want.” Well no shit! You see gadgets are the best when they serve no real function other then to say “HEY LOOK AT THIS.” If we were to give out awards for gadget of the year, I know my nomination would be for the USB Humping Dog. The little fellow serves no function, it simply just wiggles back and forth in a humping motion. Yet it’s a great little gadget. Now sure, a mult-tool with GPS and WiFi that folds up into a 1-inch square would be great, but only if it provides me with endless amusement for a week. Functional is fun, gimmicks are great. Take the amount of fun and subtract the number of days you’ll enjoy it. The item with the highest number wins. In short, if it’s a gadget it better be “useless” or I’m not intrested.

The Breath Xchange

This mask claims to keep you warm down to the core by using your own wasted body heat/moisture. While you’re outside killing yourself to shovel the drive way, or carving turns down the slope you probably don’t care about saving any heat since you’re working and staying warm. For the rest of us who just enjoy sitting around in the cold but hate that we’re cold, this mask could be a life saver. It captures your exhaled breath in a “heat-exchanger” allowing you to breath in warm moist air instead of the dry cold air around you. Doing this should help keep you warm and cozy. For those who aren’t just sitting on aluminum bleachers cheering for their team, or sitting in a tree for 5 hours waitting to kill something this might seem like a useless product. Well surprise, surprise, the company claims that breathing in moist air will help keep you from getting as dehydrated and will help your lungs from the “detrimental effects of cold air.” Of course you can pick this up from Solutions.com for just $39.95. Welcome to CrzyLand.
